Bede Village

Wheelwright Lane is developing a community partnership with Bede Village (a local retirement village).

Debra Cosgrove, the Village Manager, has invited our school to learn alongside the residents to develop community spirit and support combatting loneliness.  It also supports our children to build confidence as well as reinforcing our 5 core learning behaviours.

Our children visit the retirement village every fortnight to partake in various activities such as crafts, music and shared reading. Our children also have the opportunity to eat a meal with residence, kindly provided by the village.   

Reading has also been a focus, with children sharing their reading with the residents and reinforcing our reading for pleasure culture.

As part of our enrichment programme, children have also had the opportunity to showcase events like our carol concert with the retirement home.
